POWER OF EMOTIONS

Post  pravin kumar on Thu Aug 25, 2011 2:26 pm

Experience shows that we are hired for our skills but fired for our behaviour. Somebody could be highly intelligent but could have very poor judgement skills. That’s when Emotional Intelligence comes into the picture. It helps a person improve their skills and unlock their true potential. Those are the qualities that help a person not only to survive but also to thrive in the fast moving business environment.

Through Emotional Intelligence one understands more clearly what motivates us. We are able to more accurately identify and understand emotions and what drives them, which leads to interactive experiences. The ability to understand and control emotions is a valuable foundation to relationships.
Emotional Intelligence helps us manage stress effectively. It helps in problem solving too. It equips us with self-discipline and ability to deal with others appropriately. It influences our communication and relationship and also impacts our behaviour — personally, professionally and socially.

It needs:

* Emotional awareness
* Thoughts and feelings
* Empathy
* Interpersonal relations for stress handling
* Problem-solving and decision-making skills
* Attitudes towards people and situations of life.

In other words, Emotional Intelligence is about human performance, personal effectiveness and total well-being. A study by Life Insurance Company concluded that optimistic people sold 37 per cent more policies in first two years than the pessimists.

The higher a person goes up in life, both in status and responsibility, the greater is the need for Emotional Intelligence .

Re: POWER OF EMOTIONS

Dear Asif,

There are many instances and 3 I have already posted in this forum where the feedbacks of 3 persons, who have changed themselves a lot, specifically one lady of 40 brought me so much of happiness by coming up much much higher than she could have every dreamt. She is now doing well whereas a little over a year back she was as if hanging down from a cliff with only one hand to hold on to something. When you come across such situation and you are the person who has brought such a change in other person's life then you can well imagine what happiness it must have brought you. There is one incident which I relate below.

The Father of a boy of 16 asked me to see his son's palm (this must be some 16/17 years back) and tell him why his son does not like to study. Looking at the palm I saw a depressed Jupitor Mount and head line curving downwards and the Mount of Saturn disturbed (I do not remember the full details). I told him to ask his sun to throw the books and forget about studied for if you force him, he might commit suicide. His father, God Bless his Soul, did exactly as I said. I taught this boy and also another girl in their house (this girl was probably his cousin) meditation technique. I sat with them as they patiently practised. The main thing was both were determined to succeed come what may and they did succeed. The girl looked ordinary but when I saw her after 4 months I could not recognise such a beautiful girl. I asked her where is the other girl I met last time. She smiled, paid her respects to me by touching my feet and said I am the same person. I could not believe she could change so fast. The Boy I had met outside earlier and he saw me on the road and touched my feet to pay respect and called me Guruji Pranam. I could not even recognise him.

Both these children had changed drastically in just 4 months. This boy, when I first saw his palm wanted to meet me personally alone to ask his difficulties. He came to my hotel in the night and asked me: Guruji I commit so many mistakes? How to avoid them? I told him simply that even his father, at his age, must have committed more mistakes than you. Go and ask him and even I committed many mistakes at your age. You will learn through mistakes.

After 2 years (I used to go to Silchar, the town where they resided every 4 months), I saw this boys palm with the Jupitor Mount becoming more prominent. Now I asked him would you like to study? He said he would love to do so but now he is set up in business helping his Father and worked close to 12/14 hours a day.

Their Parents till date, call me up, once in 4/5 months just to know how I am and are very happy. There are many such instances and knowledge when brought to right use for the benefit of humanity in fact multiplies more and more. What you give to the Society is returned back multiplied hundred times HAPPINESS.

Hello Samz,

I think its always preferable that one learns meditation (last second last stage of Yoga) hands on and not from a forum like this.You are experimenting with your mind and need to be extra careful. Please?

Dear Samz,

Meditation in short is to silence the mind by bringing it under control. At present the mind dictates us. Our mind is attracted to usually sensual pleasures, excitement, hearing things of different persons with no particular meaning (gossiping) and such sort of things. Once we make the mind to do our bidding rather than the other way round then mind has tremendous capability. In Olympics and other such sports events what do the Coaches do to their wards. They give them physical training. A body can only be made to do certain things upto a limit. So how do they break the records every four years. What record Bob Beamon in Mexico Olympics created for long jump was broken by another American after 24 years. The record set by Bob Beamon broke the previous record by almost 2 metres. All the competitors simply gave up. Even this record was broken after 24 years. So what the Coaches do is to make the athletes tougher and tougher mentally.

You take a simple exercise of counting mentally (not verbally aloud) 100 to 1 very very fast. You are bound to miss quite a few numbers in between. Why. Mind is trying to run here and there. Repeating numbers in the reverse is troublesome for mind and hence we are trying to control the mind. Still mind does get some freedom and we miss the count but as we do it again and again you will be surprised to count the numbers without any break. What you will now experience is the stilling of the mind, thoughts and efficiency of brain increases. You feel more calm and thus much better to do your work.
