Mobile View Needs Modification/Upgrade

Post  Imran khan on Mon Sep 19, 2011 10:05 pm

Hi,

I was not sure where to post this, I guess it is serious enough to be posted here. Have any of you browse the site from mobile devices? I do. To my opinion, the mobile view needs some major upgrades. Let me mention here that generally it is ok, the user interface is nice. But I didn't find any log in button. Even if you're logged in from the classic view, after changing to mobile view I didn't know how to post a reply. Again I had to change back to classic view.

I hope the moderators of the forum will have something to do about it.

Hi Imran,
I just checked in on my mobile but am posting from my computer. The screen for me is just a smaller version of what I see on my monitor. The log in button is the last one on the bar above.

I think this would relate to your phone settings and not the board.

Hi Imran & Patti,

Patti, thanks for answering that question.

Imran, thank you for your feedback. Sorry, I have no mobile phone so it's hard for me to comment. All I can add to Patti's response is that your observation is the very first feedback that I have seen regarding the forum's user experience for mobile phones. But I know that at least a couple of people are following the forum via mobile phone, therefore I think Patti's suggestion could very well be the only right suggestion regarding your phone settings. All I know about the mobile phone forum settings is that this forum has recently (a few months ago) made compatible for mobile phone users by the forumotion software developers.

PS. Imarn, maybe this info may somehow become useful for your (though it is meant for all Forumotion forum managers - including myself:)

Thanks for the link Martijn!

I think Imran's question might relate to this paragraph:

3. Your forum on your Mobile phone : Now, your forums are fully optimized for browsing via mobile devices and smartphones. The principle is very simple, the forum will automatically detect the visitors who access it from a mobile device or smartphone, and it automatically displays a version optimized for this type of navigation.
Of course, the visitor who does not wish to use the mobile version will be available to him the possibility to return to normal view forum.
This feature is still in beta, you will only be able to browse the forum as a guest. No posting yet.
