Knowledge of HAIR WHORLS? Empty Knowledge of HAIR WHORLS?

Post  Foxymoron Wed Jan 18, 2012 11:30 am

I am wondering if anyone knows about hair whorls?

The one in particular I am asking about is double whorls on crown, both same hair direction, both same size and about an inch apart.

When I have googled about hair whorls I have seen all sorts of crazy hair whorls and read that it can mean brilliance or madness! But as mentioned, the double whorls I am asking about are quite ordered and neat looking.

Double hair whorls can be observed in about 5% of all people, and generally it is considered as a 'minor physical anomaly' (MPA) - which means that one can not adress any specific meaning to a double hair whorl - only combined with other MPA's it might bear some significance.

So, double hair whorls have basically been used as clinical signs of unspecific dysmorphology - which can be understand as an indication for abnormal brain growth or a development delay. But again, a person requires to have multiple of such signs (for example: combined with a simian line / Sydney line in the hand) - otherwise further investigation is likely not required at all.

However, one should understand this in the perspective that many persons with a double hair whorl may show completely normal behavior & good health.

The person has a very long head line. It does not dip down, it goes right across the palm, but not all the way over into the side, so I don't think it is a Sydney line.

The person that I am asking about is also a baby (mine!). She does not appear to have any delays to us. I am not concerned about her, just curious.

I am not sure how much a babies hand can change as it goes. So although the headline goes across a long way I don't expect it will stay looking that way as she grows bigger. Although I have no experience with babies palms, so really only guessing that it changes with growth.

Also, just adding that I looked again and noticed the head and life line are separate from the beginning! And it starts half way under the jupiter area of palm rather than side of palm.

Okay Foxymoron, thank you for your feedback.

Sounds like the 'double hair whorl' no longer continues to bother you.

By the way, I remember seeing a study describing that 'Sydney lines' are more often seen in young babies - which implicates that there is a high chance that the head line could very well become even a little bit shorter in time. So, I think you're probably right about that your baby doesn't have Sydney line.
