National Poetry Day
Yesterday was "National Poetry Day" in Uk.
I notice my feeble accidental contributions to national poetry day
:-
On "white spots" thread, I inadvertently rhymed "Zinc is the link!"
on nails "fungal infection" thread, I said "if neglected, it can become infected"
I'm sure someone here can do much better than that!
anyone interested to tell me...what is your favourite poem?

Hi Lynn,
Your are a really good poet.
As my side " O how I love you Zinc, because you save my nail from sinking in to Fungus "
Just fun.

re: National Poetry Day
About ten years ago I dabbled in poetry and actually had several published in a book we (online friends) put together. One in particular sort of fits with this forum. I had taken up mountain biking as a means of developing focused concentration. (you cannot really afford to let you mind wander when riding at speed on narrow trails through the woods unless you are fond of crashing.)
Anyway, for what it's worth, here it is:
zen ride
when i ride,
the leaves wave,
and birds race ahead.
the sunning snake,
is on the trail,
i miss its little head.
and when my breathing,
has returned,
to a quieted, stillness, calm.
I look within,
and see the world,
lying in my palm.

PS. Haven taken up the study of hands (palms), I am tempted to change the last line to:
etched upon my palm.

Re: National Poetry Day
that's great Mooky, thanks for sharing that. glad you missed the snake!
OK I'll share one....
Haiku is Japanese poetry, the English version uses three lines of up to 17 syllables;
my favourite haiku is by John Cooper Clarke:
To-con-vey one's mood
In sev-en-teen syll-able-s
Is ve-ry dif-fic

Re: National Poetry Day
ult
Lynn,
I also wrote a haiku once. A local newspaper columnist here in Michigan (you will probably need to look at a map of the US and find Michigan and note the shape to understand this one) had a contest to write a haiku that best describes someone from Michigan. I sent in my entry and he published it the next day (although I did not win the contest). Like most of my poetry I consider it to be contrived and clever at best. This one is in 5-7-5 format.
right hand raises up
left points to places on it
michiganian
I just noticed that it refers once again to the 'hand'.
I live here -- (pointing to mount of venus)
