Questions about digit ratio Empty Questions about digit ratio

Hi,
I'm a 45-year-old man from NJ, USA (6 feet 3 inches, or 1.905 m), of mixed European descent (German, Irish, English, Albanian, Eastern European Jewish).
From everything I've read it seems I have a positive 2D:4D digit ratio, which makes me wonder if my hands are feminine or unusual and what that means, if anything. Also, my index and middle fingers on the right hand strongly curve to the right.
Here are links to various images -- let me know if they are insufficient.
I appreciate the great and generous service that the experts on this forum are providing, so thank you in advance.

Hello cnjguy (Eric),

The photo below (which I recognize to represent a 'frontal' taken photo) suggests that in your left hand the index finger (2d) is clearly much (edit) longer SHORTER than your ring finger (4d), and the 2d:4d ratio appears to be close to 0.94 - which is actually a perfectly normal 'masculine' trait, especially when found in a male.

Sorry, this implicates that I can not confirm that you have a 'feminine' 2d:4d digit ratio; and I can add that your right hand photos suggest that it has a similar ratio.

I hope this feedback will become useful for you.  wave

PS. 2d:4d digit ratio can not be assessed from the back of the hand.

Questions about digit ratio Empty Re: Questions about digit ratio

Thanks, Martijn! If 2D>4D wouldn't that mean a ratio of >1? Or did you mean that 4D>2D? It's hard for me to tell. Also, should the measurements be taken with the hand splayed or with all four fingers (except the thumb) together, as in the background picture for the forum? I can redo the photos accordingly -- or try a photocopy scan.

Would webbing between the fingers have any effect on the ratio?

Thanks again!

Ah, thanks... I just noticed that there was typo in my message, because my assessment that you have 2d:4d digit ratio close to 0.94 implicates that you have 2D<4D.

(I have corrected the typo in my previous message where I mentioned 'edit')

I hope my response now makes sense.

Thanks again, Martijn! It's funny, when I look at my hands different ways or from different angles, the finger lengths appear different. I'll post some more pictures when I can and explain further.

I think I can understand your experience, but I also recognize that your experience probably results from not being aware that the issue of the 2D:4D digit ratio requires precise measurements as described in the picture below:

(You should not try to replace measurement for 'judgement', because it would required a trained person to do that properly, etc.)

Thanks again, Martijn. The diagram is very helpful. I don't think I have any calipers but I will try again with a photocopy and a ruler.

Yes, any type of measurement (not by observation only) is just fine - you might also consider using direct measurements from your hands.

Thumbs up!
