It seems to me that palmistry needs a good method of getting excellent hand pictures. Photocopiers don't work because the focus goes out away from the glass, however surely this could be modified. Also it should be possible to get phone pictures of sufficient quality by modification of the camera. Even if only small sections of the hand could be photographed.

Then we would need programmers to convert these quality photos into very fine detail palmistry -type language features. Then we would need volunteers to answer monster size questionaires directly into computers. Of course, then come the correlations. Simple really. And the result would be a revoution in humanity, eventually.
Cheers,
Mo

Hello mo,

Every tool (inktprints, photos, scans) has it's charme + advantages, but every tool also has it's own disadvantages; the prefered method probably varies with the aspect of the hand.

Actually, the problem is likely more fundamental than just the tool - because for example: in my experience every tool will give a DIFFERENT result in studying finger length & hand proportions, and as soon as one starts considering tiny details I think one can be faced with likewise problems in the assessment of other aspects of the hand.

Therefore I think there is no easy solution, because some problems relate to the use of (diffuse) concepts + assessment methods being used - but most hand readers are likely not really aware of this problem because of the poor (superficial) standards presented in hand reading books.

(Not to mention the lack of consensus among the schools/authors/books)

That sums up the situation now. But what about investing in developing very good equipment. Then the very little lines, which change considerably, could be found by programming using the main lines and the hand edges and the long fine lines as references. Then longitudinal studies will give clues to the changes in these very little lines. (These are the very little lines that cross the lines running up and across the fingers, say.)

I still think it would be easy, just needing investment. I got some very high resolution pictures of my hand painted in black and in the Sun. I was amazed at all those tiny lines. And I was equally amazed by how much they change over time. I think that we have not even touched the power of palmistry.
Cheers,
Mo

Sorry Peter, in my view the significance of the tiny lines is generally overestimated in most fields of hand reading - even though the significance of many aspects of the hand (e.g. hand shape, finger length, fingernails, motorix, skin quality, major creases) has been confirmed with scientific research, this can not be said of the tiny line markings.

For example: line markings often depend on how the light falls on the hand, which I recognize to represent an indicative clue that the marking that we sometimes assume to see... may not be there really. However, I do think that the use of a scanner or handprint can be helpful to discriminate the markings that are really there from the markings that are not really there.

Maybe you are familiar with of the phenomenon named 'apophenia': people are often inclined tend to see meaning in (complex) meaningless data. Therefore I wouldn't recommend to focus on the aspect of the tiny markings regarding the use of equipment... because at the end it could turn out to be a matter similar to photographing 'sheeps in clouds',.

Anyway, thanks for your input!  Smile
