The section of the head & life lines below the water (Jupiter) finger is the earth section of the lines, the start.
Just as in palmistry, the beginning (earth section) of earth & air lines (life & head lines) chronologically relates to childhood, formative influences.
The earth section of the earth line is about our foundations for life, basic security. The earth section of the air line is about the source or basis of thoughts/ideas and the foundations of our sense of self.
The longer these lines are joined, the longer the air is tied to (or restricted by) the earth, ie the longer the lines are joined, the longer time the person's thinking is ruled by their formative influences. When the two lines separate is a time of greater independence, mentally and physically.

(There are other possibilities too, eg headline starts inside lifeline, headline is absent at start)

Thanks for the reply Lynn. This is more or less the kind of logical answer I was looking for. I do have some follow-up questions. Once you help me with those, I will shift focus to Robin Williams.
