Matijn and Lynn,

I am posting link of a boy's hand snap posted in facebook. The smallest finger in the right hand has only two phalanges instead of the regular three phalanges. Please check and share your opinion about the same.

Hi Pravin,

Technically, one can best describe such cases in terms of a 'missing interphalangeal crease', because X ray analysis (page 114) nearly always reveals that 3 finger bones are present.

Though it ls a rare condition, it has been noticed a few times in the past that this condition in very rare cases can be notified in genetically normal people.

Here are a few more details on the combination of this condition
with a simian line:

It is difficult to find information about extra or missing interphalangeal creases. Truth is, nobody seems to know much about them! I have been trying to find out about them for years. So far I haven't been able to ascertain if they have any interpretation at all in palmistry terms.

There can be a genetic aspect eg they often run in families, are more common in people of Asian (& maybe African) descent than in Europeans. Extra creases are more common in people who have certain syndromes that give increased joint flexibility, and also in sickle cell disease. But very little research has been done on them.

Since the article about inter-phalangeal creases on my website, http://www.handanalysis.co.uk/handanalysis.htm

we discussed this feature on this forum
https://www.modernhandreadingforum.com/t35-fourth-phalange-on-my-little-finger

Everything I know about it is there!

Hi Lynn & Pravin,

Quite amazing to see here this feature here combined with a very short pinky finger with clinodactyly, and there is also a simian crease... which is a combination that is highly significant for Down syndrome; however, the dermatoglyphics indicate that this person probably does NOT have Down syndrome (trisomy 21): normal axial triradius + ID4 loop + missing hypothenar pattern which is very a-typical combination for Down syndrome... just like the normal finger length & hand shape which also do not signal Down syndrome (+ the left hand finger length + hand shape confirm the contradiction regarding Down syndrome even more: finger length is long + hand index is high).

I have also considered the other most likely options for the right hand combination, Cornelia de Lange syndrome is the only other option... but it would also typically require a broad hand with short finger length, high axial triradius + ID3 loop.

So I can basically only conclude that it represents a curious combination (single digit 5 crease + very short digit 5 + clinodactyly + simian crease) - the essence here is probably that it involves only 2 dimensions of the hand.

Thanks for sharing this case Pravin!  Thumbs up!

scratch

PS. My article 'decoding the language of the hand' became very useful for me to understand why a genetic disorder is unlikely... basically because the dermatoglyphics do not support it:
