Hi, I was reading about the response loop (slightly below the medial joint of the thumb) and was wondering if this loop was often found on people with Autism or Berger's syndrome?

The Hypothenar whorl is commoninly found on people with down syndrone and Austism.

Music threapy is ruitinly used as a way to treat people with Autism. Music Therapy has shown to effective in the development of speech. The Response Loop in a subject may have a heightened, almost automatic response to rhythm and music (Ed. Campbell).
One chair features 16 speakers embedded along the back and arms to stimulate the user’s tactile senses. Another prototype features 14 speakers but also includes rocking motions that are activated when a certain drum is struck. CBC news... The Emoti-Chair does two things: It breaks the sound frequencies up so that the user feels the piano through one speaker, the guitar through another and so on. It also changes high-frequency sounds into something that is detectable to a deaf person.
Now this device is being used to treat people with Autism. They have shown remarkable improvement in their condition as a result of being treated with this device.

Hello Zeblethai,

Berger's syndrome...?
(You probably meant 'Asperger's syndrome' - which is the high functioning variant of autism)

Now, regarding your question:

I have just made a quick scan in my sample of 31 autism cases: only 4 individuals have a pattern on the mount of venus (in one or both hands). But this is a normal percentage (possibly even slightly below the percentage commonly seen in the general population), so a pattern on the mount of venus is very likely not typical in autism.

PS. I can recommend you to take a look at this 2008 study focussed on the dermatoglyphics in 207 cases of autism:
http://www.jmpiasi.ro/2008/16(1-2)/7.pdf

This study e.g. reports a high number of ridge lines in the mount of venus [= thenar zone], observed in almost half of the autism cases: 43%, while this characteristics was observed in only about 5% of the control group.

NOTICE: In the article this characteristic is described as: 'dense and very dense network in Th/I')

wave ... I hope this answer will become useful for you.
