Psychic Pig
It made me laugh to hear that the Ukraine is presenting a psychic pig to predict the 2012 European Championships football results. It takes over from Paul the psychic octopus who died after predicting 2010 World Cup matches.

Re: Psychic Pig
Uhm... anything known about what Ukraine's 'Psychic Pig' predicted for the match The Netherlands - Denmark???
(We played well, created over 15 chances... but no luck at all, not even when one of the Danish defenders made 'hands' twice within a second during the last 10 minutes of the game. Now we'll have to beat Germany in the next game... not easy, but not impossible. But first we can wait for the outcome of the game Portugal - Denmark. If Denmark wins, we we'll probably have to beat Germany in order to stay in the tournament)

Re: Psychic Pig

oohhhh why on earth did I start a topic about football, which I have no interest in?
I had to consult my husband who said that Netherlands were the better team and you should have won but van Persie should have done better.

oh, except this http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/feedarticle/10279692
The pig, named Foontik or Krhyak depending which website you read (or are there two psychic pigs?!), predicted that Poland and Russia would win. Pig is only 50% psychic then, because although Russia won, Poland drew with Greece.
STOP PRESS!!! The pig predicted Germany would win (correct but not surprising), and it also predicted Denmark would beat the Netherlands!! Three out of four correct predictions for the pig.

hmmm, looking at pics of pigs trotters, seems they have a 50-50 chance depending which digit they point with. oh no, silly me, the pig is not pointing, it is choosing by eating a bowl of food with country's flag in. guess the trotters are irrelevant

Thanks Lynn,
I am looking forward to see his predictions for The Netherlands - Germany, France - England... and the other games.

Re: Psychic Pig
Well, the Psychic Pig named 'Funtik' had an off-day yesterday... predicted France & Sweden to win.
Score: 0% (Ukraine beat Sweden, and England - France became a draw).
By the way, before yesterday's games it's score had already dropped to 67% (after 6 games)... so now after 8 games 'Funtik' is back to where he was expected to be: 50%.
Or... should we include the fact that according statistics the chance for a draw makes the pig's chances according statistical probability drop below 0.50%?
Maybe the pig was just unlucky that 3 games ended with a draw???

Anyway, here's an interesting review explaining: 'Octopus Paul hard act to follow':

Re: Psychic Pig
great to see several psychic animals joining in with the predictions. eg Citta the Elephant
, Yvonne the Cow & Fred the Ferret.

Re: Psychic Pig
It seems the pig and the ferret are doing better than the elephant in their predictions.
http://www.rferl.org/content/psychic-animals-euro-duel-continues/24614358.html
These animals are not as exciting as Paul the Octopus (R.I.P.) in fact I can't see their latest predictions anywhere.
Personally, I am so bored of the football!

Hi Lynn,
Yes, it's still hard to track down the predictions... and it is even harder to find out whether these were already available BEFORE the start of the games, etc.
The article suggests that the pig choose all games correct when there was a winner (before the jun 13 games), but that is not correct - because the pig predicted for june 11 Sweden to win against Ukraine, but the Swedish team lost the game.
Later the pig picked made quite a few more incorrect choices:
- Funtik picked Denmark for the 2nd time, but Portugal won the game:
http://www.desifunz.net/news-section/world-news/110391-funtik-pig-predicts-result-euro-2012-soccer-match-between-denmark-portugal-kiev.html
- Funtik picked Ireland for their 2nd game against Spain, but Spain won the game:
http://sg.news.yahoo.com/photos/funtik-pig-predicts-result-euro-2012-soccer-match-photo-160006373.html
(Not sure, maybe the pig did make more incorrect 'winners')
I guess Funtik the pig already lost it's 'game' trying to beat Paul the octopus.
PS. Boring or not... congratulations on the English victory tonight. Now your country only requires to make at least a draw for the last game in order to reach the quarter finals. My country has now put all hopes on Germany beating Denmark... and then we need also two-goals victory on Portugal in order to get to the next round. But we would then become the very first team ever on a Euro-championchips tournament reaching the 2nd round after starting with two losses, so our chances (only about 10% according chance statistics for the situation in the group) are only a little bit better than Sweden's chances... after England kicked them out of the tournament tonight.

In my book, none of these animals can beat my hero, Paul the Psychic Octopus

Thanks for your congrats about England victory tonight, thanks to a better second half of the match. Tho I care nothing about it, I will pass your congrats onto my husband, who thinks that football is important. In fact he told me something to "Tell your friend Martijn..." tho it went in one ear and out the other, so I have no idea what I am supposed to tell you. Commiserations to you for Netherlands losing the other night against ....who was it? Germany? (
