examples of handshapes & lines by width
I hope this clears up some confusion about line qualities & handshapes as discussed in other threads in this "5-element cheirology" sub-forum. I'll be posting 4 pictures.
note - when talking about line quality here, I am talking about width.
This picture, taken from Fred Gettings "The Book of The Hand" is a square earthy palm with typical few minor lines, but middle finger is 80% length of palm (medium length, not short fingers as in typical earth hand). As the fingers are slightly longer than standard earth hand, even medium length adds a bit of air element to the earthy palm & suggests that this farmer was more than a manual worker, he used his brain too! (palm represents the body, fingers represent the mind)
Notice the width of his lifeline = earth quality by width - a wide, slow-flowing river of energy. Actually I suspect that the hand got "squished" around venus mount in taking this handprint, cos the lifeline (earth line) is unusually wide, but gives you an idea what (slightly exaggerated) earth width lines look like.

Re: examples of handshapes & lines by width
also from Fred Gettings book - water shape hand (long narrow palm, long fingers) with mostly water quality major lines (especially middle section of lifeline & all of fate line)

Re: examples of handshapes & lines by width
(also from Fred Gettings)This is an air shape hand (square palm, long fingers) with mostly fire quaity lines by width.

Re: examples of handshapes & lines by width
This is basically a fire hand (rectangular palm, short fingers) - although actually her fingers are medium (around 80%) ie slightly longer than standard fire (again adds air element). Her major lines are mainly air quality. and she has loads of water quality minor lines.

Re: examples of handshapes & lines by width
Sure Lynn, these examples should be helpfull... thank you for presenting them!
Though.... I think your comments for each hand are very important (I understand + agree regarding the details of your observations). But for sure, people should not ignore your comments regarding the quality of the lines!
Maybe we should continue try to find 4 examples where the hand shape 'matches' with the quality of far most of the lines (primary + secundary)? Then the visual impression might become more effective!
How does this sound to you?
