Disection of the human hand: gruesome or fascinating?
These scientists had a human hand, probably the arm, and they proceeded to take off the skin and with instruments, like tweezers, pull the tendons and show how they pull each finger and also expose muscles. I had to look away and listen to what they were saying and hope I would hear something that interested me and really hoping to hear something I understood.
Anyway, they said the Chimpanzees are the nearest to humans and also have opposing thumbs but have long fingers and long palms.Their thumb is
shorter and weaker.Ours is longer and can easily reach the tips of our other fingers. If we were to do an arm wrestle with a chimp we would lose,, but if we did a thumb wrestle we would probable win.It has become we don't need long fingers.
The thumb is the main player, but all the other fingers have a vital role in our dexterity and play a vital part.
They asked, if you were to lose a finger by choice which one do you think you could do without, and the answer, to my surprise, is the index finger. After the thumb the little finger is the most mobile
This programme is in two parts and the next one is the foot. I have it recorded and have not watched it yet.
