Hi Mastif,
I have The Benham Book of Palmistry and I strongly recommend it, it is really good. However I do not recommend Edward Campbell's Encyclopedia of Palmistry.
Regards,
Jeanette.

Maybe you are interested to become a 'voter' for the TOP 100 project?
PS. I respect your opinion, but since you didn't motivate your comment I would like to add that from my point of view Ed Campbell's work is really one of the most impressive books ever written in this field... and for me it is not a surprize at all that Ed's work is listed in the TOP 10 of the most recommended works, see:

Dear Martijin and Lynn,
I have an "Encyclopedia of palm and palm reading - A treatise on palmistry" by Samudrik Tilak M.Katakkar, published by UBS Publishers' Distributors Ltd, New Delhi-India. And also published in London. 1992 Edition.

Well, this book is listed in the TOP 100 (currently at no.66) - so, it's a relatively well-known book.
And I have a copy of the book, but I think this book is not truely an 'Encyclopedia'... it appears to be based on the work of less than 30 authors (and not much more titles), and while the book counts over 700 pages, I think the major topic of the simian line is not even mentioned in this book. And there is for example no useful index to find info about specific topics in the book.
I also noticed that the few handprints that are included at the beginning of this book... are possibly all taken from other books (some where taken from Cheiro's book). I think this raises doubts about how authentic this book really is. In my various research projects this book has played no role at all (except for it's listing in the books TOP 100).
So, I prefer not to recommend this book - especially not as an 'encyclopedia' (though I know that some others have completely different opinions about this book).

New Horizons in Palmistry
The New Horizons in Palmistry is Truly a good book if not famous.I got to Know of it only through PI Forums moderated by Sue.The excellent part is the number of illustrations that the author makes to validate his points. Many good books lack the original palm prints in reference to each sign symbol etc discussed.Thereby is becomes sometimes difficult to correlate with the authors views. It is obviously a good book for starters as well as professionals even if many may not agree to full the authors views on many Hand Line interpretations.asif amin wrote:One very famous book is "The New Horizon in Palmistry" by M.A Malik, published by Ferozson publisher Lahore. In this book author illustrate and define more than 700 palm with features and introductions. Author has vast experience in the field of Palmistry and psychology.

Dear TruthseekerTruthSeeker wrote:IMHO, the most skilled palmist of the 20th century was a Indian-Kashmiri palmist named Mir Bashir who was based in London. His clientèle included the European royalty as well as many world-renowned celebrities. This is before my time, but in his prime (1960s) few palmists commanded as much worldwide respect as him. Unfortunately, he was not a prolific writer and authored only two books. One of which is in my possession (The Art of Hand Analysis).
How good was he? I have "third-hand" experience. Long time ago (when I was kid --- yes, that was a long time ago), my mom told me that her sister once had a reading by Mir Bashir in London. She actually told me specifically what Mir Bashir had told her. Indeed these were very specific events and of astonishing accuracy. Even now, decades later, I recall becoming very curious about palmistry from that day on. I have studied palmistry for 40 years and have read approximately 34,000 hands (yes, I kept count) but have yet a long, long way to go to come close to Mir Bashir's accuracy. And that is indeed the key word i.e. accuracy (and perhaps, specificity, as well). Actually, I have yet to meet any palmist who was really accurate as well as specific. Maybe someday I will ...
![]()
Mr Mir Bashir was no doubt an excellent palm reader.I got to know of him some years back through a book by Mr Harvey Day(Author of many books on Yoga) who mentions many palm readers/Astroologers including Mir Bashir in his Book "Seeing into the future",Thorsons Publications 1966, Page 143.The books illustrates Mir Bashir's rise to fame as a palmist form reading the Hands Of Mill workers in Mumbai,India to London,England. However,I believe a laymen can go nowhere near his skills reading his books just like Cheiro's books.I have with me the book"How to read hands" published by Thorsons ,London,1957,Second Impression. The books seems very elementary .Although the other book by the same author"The art of Hand Analysis" is somewhat detailed.
Another palmist Mr. M.K.Gandhi(Not Mahatma Gandhi) finds mention in the same book by Mr Harvey, although I have never came across anyone mentioning the palmist anywhere.

Dear Martijin and Lynn,
Please give me an idea about the book of Joyce Wilson " The complete book of palmistry" published by the workman publishing company in USA in 1971.

Hello Asif,
Your question is rather general: can you please specify your question?
And what do you have in mind so far... have you bought the book?

I have to make a few words of caution regarding Wilson's (rather old) book from the 70's:
I don't want to recommend this book, because the author 'sells' the idea that your future/destiny is sort of fixed in your hand - but I think this is typically an 'old palmistry idea'.
For, one only has to become aware of the FACT that lhe lines always can change, and... usually they will change in time!
Asif, I hope you were aware of this:
While this book is ranked relatively high in the TOP 100 - I also would like to notice that so this book belongs to the very few in the TOP 20 which have NOT been recommended by the first 27 'voters' ...!!
Combined with the fact that this book is rather 'old' (written almost 40 years ago), I hope you will understand why I can not recommend this book.
Anyway, thanks for asking my opinion!!

maybe that is why I never bought it? I know this book has been around for years, and is very popular, but I was never drawn to it

there are lots of books aged 40 years + which are worth buying, some old classics!
but I guess you will find them in the recommended section of the Top 20.
my personal recommendations are on my website books page http://www.handanalysis.co.uk/books.htm
sadly my updated page looks a bit sparse because amazon.co.uk don't have images for all the books. For people outside Uk, notice the Book Depository does free delivery to many parts of the world. (but not to Pakistan I think, I looked into it when Temoor wanted to order some books).

Asif, I hope you now understand why I introduced the 'vote'-system!!?
Basically, I am very aware that some authors... are simply very good in writing books!!
But regarding some of them I seriously doubt the authenticity of their hand reading skills - especially if they also wrote likewise books about many other topics
A clear example of this are the books of Richard Webster - who is a professional author & speaker... his books score high in the sellings ranks because he writes his books very well - but NOT because of being a professional 'palmist', for he is not a true 'expert' in this field.

Re: VIII - Palmistry books TOP 100 - listed by 'Amazon Sales Rank'!
Thanks for the update.I have quite a lot of the books mentioned now. Only my opinion but I think the best modern day book is The Spellbinding Power of Palmistry by Johnny Fincham. Thanks for the information about Thanks for the information about Richard Webster. I do not have any of his books. I think you are saying he is good with theory, but practice is another matter. Thanks.
