Signs of Deaf and Dumb
This is a severe case of deaf and dumb child of eight years old. Can you establish the combinations of major or minor markers that may reveal deafness and dumbness? Is he corrigible? He could not learn alphabets or numbers so far but recognizes near relatives. His one sister and two brothers are quite normal. No heridiy. Picture attached. Thank you.

Re: Signs of Deaf and Dumb
Hello Parender,
These hands look very much like Down syndrome:
- handshape: squarish + finger features;
- fingers: abnormally short fingers, very small pinky finger with clinodactyly;
- dermatoglyphics: high positioned axial triradius in the left hand for sure, and I think I observe a double loop on the hypothenar in the right hand.
Unfortunately I can't see all fingerpints but I think I observe some characteristics that are also typical for Down syndrome (high slanted loops on index fingers of both hands; and I think there is a radial loop on the ring finger of the right hand).
Was he ever checked for Down syndrome?
Anyway, I think his development will continue to be troublesome.
If you would be able to share quality photos of his fingerprints, I am able to check his risk for having a n inborn heart problem (which often manifests in Down syndrome at a later age).
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing!

PS. About 60% up tot 80% of people who have Down syndrome also have hearing deficits.

Hi Martijn,
I am fully agreed with what you wrote especially when you say “Anyway, I think his development will continue to be troublesome”, as psychiatry explanation of clinodactyly goes like this:
A pervasive developmental disorder of children, characterized by impaired communication, excessive rigidity, and emotional detachment. A tendency to view life in terms of one's own needs and desires. The child behaves exactly in this way.
You mentioned about two keys of the hand analysis i.e. hand formation and Dermatoglphics (fingerprints and palm ridges) but did not about the third key i.e. about the lines on the palm. I think broken Head Line also indicate something is very wrong with the child as far as his brain power is concerned. Obviously, the other two keys are important.
I link little finger with communication and speech centre which are very short and bent on both the hands, besides that Head Line is broken and there is an island on it. This also confirms his weakness in the areas of communication, uncontrolled and unpredictable behavior. He is corrigible but a little as on his right hand the ATD angle is smaller than the left hand’s. Though, there could be small and very slow improvement in his speaking and hearing abilities as time passes, but, I assume he will never be a normal person.
Thank you Martijn for your efforts and time.

Hi Parender,
Thank you for your feedback. By the way, you didn't comment on my suggestion regarding Down syndrome.
What is your thought on that?
(Down syndrome often presents a clear path of expectations about how the person will develop when growing older; so that aspect of my answer should become most helpful when it gets confirmed)
