YELLOW NAILS? - Always check other nail features of the hand, like: the cuticles & lunula!

Yellow fingernails are often the result of behavior habits: such as smoking, nail polish, cooking with curry, nail fungus, or the use of certain types of medication (e.g. tetracycline). But sometimes yellow nails are a signal for medical problems: how to recognize the difference?
You can now learn to recognize the difference between: harmless yellow nails, worrisome yellow nails, and... the yellow nail disorder!
For a brief introduction about this topic I can recommend this blog-post:
http://yourfingernails.wordpress.com/2011/02/07/what-causes-yellow-nails-how-to-recognize-the-yellow-nail-syndrome/
But if you are really interested in the details, I can recommend this article (which I have updated earlier today):

And of course... your questions are welcome!!

Example of the 'yellow nail syndrome' - which is e.g. recognized beyond yellow nails by the missing of cuticles & lunula (nail moons):

Re: YELLOW NAILS? - Always check other nail features of the hand, like: the cuticles & lunula!

Last month the yellow nail problem was featured in an article presented by Capital Lifestyle, see:
http://www.capitalfm.co.ke/lifestyle/2013/01/14/what-your-nails-say-about-your-health/
"3. Yellow nails- You could simply just be overdoing it with dark nail polish but on a serious note you could have a nail fungal infection or psoriasis or a rare condition called the yellow nails syndrome."
Psoriasis is indeed one of the diseases (indirectly) associated with yellow nails, however... in psoriasis yellow nails are known only known as a side-effect of 5-fluorouracil treatment - source: http://informahealthcare.com/doi/abs/10.1080/09546630902773494
PS. In general, yellow nails are also associated with slow nail groth (and the above mentioned study presents evidence for that as well).
